Full day
Penguin Colony of Puñihuil and Historical Ancud
This excursion takes us to the north of the island of Chiloe, full of historical scenery and lots of local history. We will begin by visiting the bay of Puñihuil, declared a national monument due to the fact that it is the only place in the world where the Humbult and the Magellanic penguin nest side by side. We will embark on a boat which will take us to the islets, where for half an hour we will be identifying besides penguins, other animals and birds that nest and live there like cormorants, pelicans, kelp geese and an occasional sea otter. After lunch we head to the city of Ancud, that was once the capital of Chiloé to visit its fort and the “Fundación Amigos de las Iglesias” which plays an important role in restoration and diffusion of these world heritage monuments (UNESCO) By the afternoon we return to Castro.
